ABSTRACT

Visualization of the brain parenchyma and intracerebral vessels by ultrasound long was thought to be impossible in adults because the intact skull was a seemingly impenetrable barrier. However, the continuous advancement and optimization of the method of transcranial B-mode sonography (TCS) from the beginning of the 1990s nally enabled the imaging of the main parenchymal structures from the pontine brain stem to the parietal lobe and provided reproducible measurements of the whole ventricular system with increasingly better resolution.
