ABSTRACT
The goal of most biomedical sciences is greater understanding of health and disease. Progress in those sciences depends on advances in knowledge and understanding of biological mechanisms and structures in isolated cells and fragments of them, in tissues and in solitary and groups of living animals, including humans. As developments occur in one area they can be applied to the others to aid comprehension of vital processes and their mutual interactions.
