ABSTRACT

In this chapter we will use our knowledge of biomedical simulation and signal processing gained in the previous chapters to examine several physiological systems. We will examine the autonomic nervous system by means of heart rate variability. We will also examine the analysis of physiological signals such as the EKG, EEG, and EMG. In addition, we will discuss the topic of circadian rhythms and then attempt to connect all of these signals and systems in our discussion of physiological stress. The reader is urged to consult a text on human physiology to supplement this discussion [1].
