ABSTRACT
Environmental factors such as changes in the composition, temperature and humidity of inspired air, and air pollution (outdoor and indoor) can potentially increase airway inflammation and result in acute exacerbations of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (AECOPD). Other factors such as infection, social factors, and drug treatment may modify the response of patients with COPD to the surrounding stimuli.
