ABSTRACT

Salt marshes are the transition between submerged and emerged environments and are among the most biologically productive ecosystems in the world. Not only do salt marshes experience a variety of physical characteristics, they also offer significant ecological benefits (Ko and Day 2004). Salt marshes provide habitats for a wide variety of fish and wildlife, and help maintain coastal water quality by acting as filters and scrubbers of sediments and excess nutrients (Herrera-Silveira et al. 2004).
