ABSTRACT

Chester S. Spell, PhD is an associate professor of management at the School of Business-Camden, Rutgers University. He received his PhD from the Georgia Institute of Technology. In addition to his interest in extreme work environments, his current research interests focus on the relationship between working conditions, employee mental health, and substance abuse in the workplace. A current project also investigates how employee behavior, both in and away from the workplace, has been monitored and evaluated by organizations and how monitoring techniques have changed over time. His research has appeared in the Academy of Management Journal, the Journal of Management, the Journal of Organizational Behavior, and the Sloan Review of Management.
