ABSTRACT

This chapter covers the long-term characteristics of batch production times in the repetitive work environment over an in¥nite horizon in which the demand rate is constant and the production of a constant batch size of q units takes place at regular intervals (such as once every Monday). The model that we are discussing differs from the traditional inventory models [i.e., economic order quantity (EOQ), economic manufacturing quantity (EMQ)] in that the production rate is no longer a constant; instead, it is in’uenced by workers learning while processing units and their forgetting during the break between two successive batches. When returning to produce a batch of the same product, the worker is then relearning.
