ABSTRACT
Several studies have suggested that some ectoparasites might harbor scrapie in farms and could act as vectors to infect previously healthy animals [6-10]. e human skin is a natural target for ectoparasites and also expresses PrP protein in large amounts [11,12]. In favorable circumstances, a case of myiasis, caused by tissue infestation by y larvae, could act as an important source of the abnormal isoform of prion protein [10,13]. e autocatalytic method of prion dissemination would probably reduce the amount of PrPSc necessary to induce infection [2].
