ABSTRACT

The infl uence of temperature (accompanied with atmospheric pressure and water saturation defi cit of the air) along the elevational gradient again changes with latitude. Within the same latitude, the variation of the ecological or geographical characteristics of the area (i.e., the associated bedrock, soil chemistry and geomorphology, landscape or biome history, geological history) are additional drivers of evolution of particular biota, which can then characterize in their unique composition even a single mountain range (Table 14.1).
