ABSTRACT

Horticultural research is conducted primarily in the public sector, with private research institutions playing a relatively minor role. As a result, research gaps emerge between the basic research generated by public institutions and the applied research needs of industry. This gap can be reduced by forming public-private partnerships (PPPs) that allow academic researchers access to commercialization technologies (such as gene expression pro‰les and genome maps) and give private ‰rms access to new research and innovation.
