ABSTRACT
Colorectal cancer affects both men and women of all race and ethnicity. Most often it is found in people aged 50 years or more. For men, colorectal cancer is the third most common cancer. For women, colorectal cancer is the second most common cancer among Asian/Paci c Islander and Hispanic women. For Caucasian, African American and American Indian/Alaska Native women colon cancer is the third most common cancer. In the United States, death from colorectal cancer ranks number two. The National Cancer Institute estimates the incidence of colon and rectal cancer to be approximately 106,100 (colon); 40,870 (rectal) for 2009. The combined death from colon and rectal cancer is estimated to be 49,920 (https://www.cancer.gov/cancertopics/types/ colonandrectal).
