ABSTRACT
This paper presents the ergonomic part1c1pation in a project to modernize the control room in a hydroelectric company from Brazil. In this design, the ergonomics interferes from the viability studies, in the early stages, until the workplace definition, furniture setting, computerized equipment development, setting screens, the staff recruitment and the training and organization of the work. The control room under study has been undergoing several steps of modernization owing to the shifts of the information media,when the synoptic panels/screens where changed. The limits of the ergonomic proposal, its contribution to the analysis of the work situation, the use of an ergonomic methodology as well as the results will be discussed.
