ABSTRACT
Termination of the study or study arms following an interim analysis, if performed with traditional alpha preservation methods, is well accepted by statisticians and regulatory authorities. These traditional designs share a common trait, namely, that the decisions that are taken after the unblinded analysis are to stop or to continue the study. In this chapter, I will discuss these well-understood and well-accepted designs.
