Threading Threading, or Khite in Arabic, is an ancient method of manual hair removal in parts of India and the Middle East. Unwanted hair is removed from the root by passing twisted cotton thread over the skin.(12) A service initially offered at ethnic beauty salons, threading is now gaining popularity and becoming increasingly available all over the United States. The purported advantages of this practice include minimal cutaneous irritation and fast hair removal. Common side effects include pain, folliculitis, and temporary erythema, edema, pruritus, and pigment alterations. Case reports of complications include bullous impetigo (13) and warts (14) from external exposure to infected materials following the procedure.
