ABSTRACT

The term “proteome” refers to the set of all proteins expressed in a cell, tissue, or organism. In contrast to the cell’s static genome, the proteome is dynamic and changes from time to time, and hence is accurately de‘ned as the set of proteins present in a sample at a speci‘c point of time (Liebler 2002). The systematic and methodological analysis of a proteome for protein identi‘cation, quanti‘cation, and functional characterization is known as proteomics.
