ABSTRACT

With developments in remote sensing and other spatial information technology, an increasing amount of spatial data is derived from multiple sources, which are usually of different measurement spatial scales. Unsurprisingly, multiscale data acquisition and integration have long been recognized as major research topics in geography (Quattrochi and Goodchild 1997; Tate and Atkinson 2001). Studying the process and provenance of measurement (often at multiple scales) is constructive for enhancing the effectiveness of data integration, the subject of Chapter 8.
