ABSTRACT

Chapter 3 described geospatial measurements and the related scale issues by reviewing spatial sampling (e.g., sampling density and data support) and some of the technical details underpinning remote sensing, providing a basis for understanding measurement scale and the underlying data-generating processes. This chapter moves to the modeling of process scale by elucidating geostatistical models of scale, furnishing the characterization of scale of the underlying phenomena under study and, thus, determination of a commensurate scale for measurement.
