ABSTRACT

INTEGRATION OF DENTAL TREATMENT WITH MEDICAL AND SURGICAL TREATMENT The goal of dental management of the head and neck oncology patient is to ensure the patient enters his or her active treatment phase without delay and in possession of a healthy, functional, and well-maintained dentition. If possible, all potential sources of infection should be removed prior to cancer treatment. The dental treatment plan will be decided with consideration given to the types of anticancer treatment, the patient’s wishes, and the dentist’s experience and knowledge in the management of other similar patients. Close cooperation between the dental team and the responsible physician is imperative.
