ABSTRACT
The thinking processes of the theory of constraints (TOC) have been successfully used in finding major constraints of production systems and improving productivity. In this study, we attempted to extend the thinking processes in finding major challenges of road transportation system, where it is difficult to draw a clear map of current reality tree (CRT). To extend the thinking processes, methods and procedures to create CRT was proposed and conducted, including focus group discussions, interview surveys, and questionnaires. The obtained CRT was
validated through afterward questionnaires, which was used to improve the CRT. The methodology was applied to investigate the challenges of Beijing road transportation system. It is the preliminary application and the result could be used to provide suggestions for countermeasure design to improve the road transportation system.
