ABSTRACT

End users who encounter an accessibility barrier or a positive experience should have the ability to report the event to the relevant entity and subsequently track the report to completion. Furthermore, users should be able to see all reports submitted by the community, thereby permitting advocacy and transparency. The team is working to develop this type of citizen science system within the realm of public transit. This model will empower riders, resulting in a greater understanding of the transportation system, and improve the feedback loop between rider and provider. While existing citizen science approaches have been successfully deployed for other domains, public transit is particularly complex due to the dynamic nature of the service provided, information required for institutional reasons, and magnitude of many systems. This work describes a user-centered effort to define the website interactions and interfaces for public transit citizen science systems.
