ABSTRACT

Conducting employee interviews is an opportunity to draw complete conclusions in relation to how the facility is performing in the areas that are within the scope of the audit. The documentation review phase allows the auditor an opportunity to evaluate written programs and supporting documentation. The physical inspection is an opportunity to see how well the programs are being implemented in the facility. Conducting interviews is the ˜nal component that allows the auditor the opportunity to determine how well program information has been communicated to employees and to what degree the employees have internalized the information. Below are signi˜cant issues to consider when conducting employee interviews:

• Location where the interviews will be conducted • Use of communication skills • Types of questions to be asked • Language barriers that may exist • Con˜dentiality of those who are interviewed

Employee interviews will typically occur either on the production ¡oor or in a quiet area away from the noise and activity of work areas. Employee comfort is the primary factor in determining where interviews should be conducted. The auditor might be a person with whom employees are not familiar, thus making the interaction potentially uncomfortable or intimidating. Due to this potential dynamic, the employees should have input as to where the interviews are conducted.
