ABSTRACT

Three decades ago, a report by the U.S. Energy Research Advisory Board, chaired by David Pimentel, concluded that producing ethanol from corn (maize) was a bad idea (Of‰ce of Technology Assessment, 1979). Unfortunately, ever since then, some scientists have tended to obfuscate what is really a fairly obvious conclusion. They have not presented incorrect data, but have presented a false picture by focusing on unimportant matters and ignoring the important ones.
