ABSTRACT

It is generally assumed that temporary buildings are erected to use in a relatively short period. The industrialized countries have a great technical potential for the pennanent architecture with a long lifetime and period of usefulness. Also, the economic considerations encourage architecture to be used for several decades. However, both in the past and nowadays there is a strong trend in architecture connected with temporary buildings, exploited over a short period of time. They are erected mainly for special occasions to hold special events and in emergency situations. Paradoxically, despite its short lifetime, many temporary buildings have found their place -in the history of architecture and building techniques, sometimes becoming a kind of model or standard for objects with a long exploitation period. In the paper the following issues will be discussed: evolution of temporary architecture, social, political, economic. functional and technical conditions for its design, erection, exploitation and demolition, and also its influence on social changes and evolution of the traditional architecture, etc.
