ABSTRACT

The aim of this paper is to assess the applicability of augmented reality CAR) technology to support different manual work activities, in order to implement improvements in industrial systems. Augmented Reality refers to software applications that integrate typically video stream with additional digital information such as 3D models, animation and text. Currently AR techniques are used in various application areas to support manual work. The literature shows that manual work processes are very diverse. Therefore, the technology needed to support these processes is varied. Today AR technology is used primarily in design and analysis. However working applications at later lifecycle stages (production, maintenance) rarely make use of it outside laboratories. This work invcstigates whether existing systems, tools, devices and interfaces are sufficient to support manual work processes and if it has to be improved from the technological/technical point of view in order to improve manual work processes.
