ABSTRACT

We argue that social science theories of organization structllre andfunction can be operationalized through the methodology of Morphological Analysis (MAJ. MA provides a structured and efficient approach for describing complex systems that exhaustively explores hypothesis space for a given set of units of analysis (UOA). We will develop means to map concepts from social science theories such as Contingency Theory and Open Systems TheOlY to morphological UOAs and demonstrate how operationally useful analytic descriptions of human networks conducting asymmetric operations can be constructed. We outline a set of

experiments to test the hypothesis that analysis supported by the framework is superior to unsupported analysis. We specify a software tool implementing the MAoperationalized social science theory.
