ABSTRACT

Plant products comprise the majority of substances used within perfumery. These extracts can be obtained through steam distillation, expression, and extraction. Distillation is the method used for removal of geranium, lavender, rose, and orange blossom scents. Expression is used to squeeze oil from the peel of bergamot, lemon, lime, and other citrus fruits. If the aromatic substance is unstable at the higher temperatures required for distillation or the yield of the oil minimal through expression, then extraction is employed.
