ABSTRACT

The use of cosmetics in a rosacea patient is very important to minimize inflammation as well as to camouflage facial redness. Rosacea patients form a subset of sensitive skin, making the selection of skin care products and cosmetics problematic. Ingredients that typically cause no difficulty in an average patient can cause severe stinging and burning in a rosacea patient. Sometimes the adverse reaction can be invisible; more typically, it is characterized by the rapid onset of facial flushing. For this reason, developing a methodology for product recommendations in a rosacea patient becomes important. This chapter will discuss a rationale for the selection of cleansers, moisturizers, cosmeceuticals, and facial cosmetics for rosacea patients.
