ABSTRACT
A delay in evacuating miners contributed to five people being treated for smoke inhalation. Even though the mine was using a CO monitoring system as well as a PTHS system for fire detection, the fire apparently developed so quickly that miners were still in jeopardy. The accident points out that prevention of the conditions that cause fires is more effective than detecting and extinguishing flames.
