Introduction Th is chapter is about defense in depth, a multilayer, multidimensional protection scheme designed to absorb and progressively weaken an attack. Th e term defense in depth has for many years been a catch-all phrase for the information security industry, so it is probably worthwhile to spend some time explaining exactly what this tactic is.
