ABSTRACT

While much has been written about good operating practices, they are still the most cost-e£ective and underused means to improve overall process e¡ciency. ¢e enforcement of these practices can result in reduced chemical use, reduced emissions, improved cleaning e¡ciency, and a safer working environment. Common practices include the clear de©nition of worker responsibilities; providing adequate training; following proper procedures for start-up, shutdown, maintenance, and repair; and segregating wastes to promote recycling and avoid treatment problems.
