ABSTRACT

The blueprint of cloud computing came from Google. Rumor has it that in the early days of Google, they created large server farms with inexpensive personal computer (PC) motherboards, power-supply, one or two disk drives, all attached with Velcro straps into plastic trays sitting in bakers’ racks. There are some concerns the cloud, voiced by various chief information officer: security, availability, performance, cost and standards. The competitive environment faced by cloud and managed hosting providers is not faced by in-house IT. Cloud and managed hosting providers compete aggressively with other cloud and managed hosting providers on delivering performance and capacity at the lowest possible cost and best service levels. Traditional IT systems are optimized for one hundred percent bit integrity. With managed hosting, there is a menu of compute and storage owned and operating by managed hosting companies.
