ABSTRACT

Professor Eugene Lukacs (1906-1987) posed the following problem: Does the exponential equation

f(x+ y) = f(x)f(y) ∀x, y ∈ R (19.1) have an analogous stability theorem, whereby f is approximated by an exponential function? Baker, Lawrence and Zorzitto (1979) examined the stability of the exponential equation to provide an answer to the problem asked by Lukacs.
