ABSTRACT
There are several ways to classify trial design. We can classify trials into exploratory and confirmatory trials; noninferiority, superiority, equivalence, and dose-response trials; parallel, crossover, and factorial designs; or classical and adaptive trials. The definitions of most of the terms can be found in the FDA guidance (FDA, 1988) and summarized as follows.
