ABSTRACT

Clinical audit-a process for the continuous improvement in health care quality-shows particular features when applied to perinatal mortality and stillbirth.

In stillbirth, the objectives of quality of care may be schematically summarized in

the correct communication to parents of the cause of • death and the plan for future pregnancies (the risk of recurrence and the plan of care); the development of epidemiological knowledge on still-• birth and the identification of interventions to reduce frequency; the detection of potential critical points in the plan of • care and the identification of interventions for their management.
