Hotels and Motels
On February 13, 1986, an eight-hour inferno at the luxurious Manila Hotel in the Philippines took the lives of 27 people. Two months later (April 18, 1986) a fire swept through the upper floors of a newly built hotel in Harbin, China, resulting in 10 fatalities. Also in 1986, an afternoon fire at the Dupont Plaza hotel in San Juan, Puerto Rico claimed the lives of 97 more. For most, this is news that is just hard to stomach.
