ABSTRACT
This chapter presents the rules and points of view of the major religions in the world regarding end-of-life decisions. Many of the references are from intensive care unit (ICU) studies, because that branch of medical science frequently deals with the ethics of withholding or withdrawing lifesustaining therapy, alleviation of pain, treatment of patients in a persistent vegetative state and whether further therapy will be futile.
