The aim of this study was to detect spatial – temporal changes for land use and land cover using satellite imagery for 2000 and 2005 of Nanjanagud Taluk (Sindhuvallipura watershed), Mysore district of Karnataka and to gain the awareness on the fact that how geo-informatics is applied in the field of Rural Development. This change detection analysis was carried out by using the Geographic Information Software ERDAS IMAGINE 9.1 and Arc GIS 9.3. The images that were used for the analysis are the data products of IRS-Indian Remote Sensing Satellite and captured by LISS III and IV (Linear Imaging Self Scanning sensor). The images were geometrically corrected using UTM projection with WGS 84 Spheroid, followed by image processing operations unsupervised classification and post classification comparison change detection. Change detection analysis has been executed based on digital image classification and area statistic calculation.
