Looking into the Crystal Ball: Potential New EPA Hydraulic Fracturing Rules Impacting Unconventional Oil and Gas Production from Shale Plays

This chapter discusses the United States Environmental Protection Agency (USEPA) interpretations of New Source Performance Standard (NSPS) subpart OOOO that regulate owback emissions from hydraulically fractured natural gas wells. White papers recently issued by the USEPA related to additional emission sources at oil and gas production facilities not currently regulated by NSPS Subpart OOOO will also be analyzed to predict additional, future regulations for hydraulically fractured oil wells. The chapter also discusses recent public action around hazardous air pollutants (HAP) regulations and USEPA action around hydraulic fracturing chemical use disclosures.
