ABSTRACT
The concept o f a formal approach to productivity m easurem ent at the basic level in com panies and organizations is still in its infant stages o f conceptualization and rationalization. This chapter presents the benefits o f productivity m easurem ent, a sum m ary o f the four m ost com m only used productivity indices in com panies, and a critique o f their effectiveness. Both the task-oriented and the technology-oriented total productivity m easurem ent (TOTP) m odel, which incorporates a new m ethod o f inputs and outputs in the work environm ent, are presented. Case studies are offered to show the validity o f the models.
