Improvementsinsewageandwatertreatmentprocessesarereducingthe needforremovalofhighconcentrationsofammoniaforpotablewaters. Traditionally,ammoniaremovalhasbeencarriedoutbybreakpoint chlorination.Thereisnow,however,anincreasingacceptanceofbiological methodsforammoniaremovalbecauseoftrihalomethaneformation resultingfromtheapplicationofhighchlorinedosestosurfacewaters.
