ABSTRACT

Introduction The use of pozzolanic and cementitious materials in the ce ment and concrete industries has risen sharply during the last fifty years. For a variety of reasons, discussed later, the poten tial for future use is even greater. It is predicted that in the near future a concrete mixture without pozzolanic or cementi tious materials would be an exception rather than the rule. Therefore, it is important for practicing civil engineers to ac quire a basic knowledge of the types of materials available, their characteristics, and their influence on properties of con crete.
