ABSTRACT

The new polymer system is designed based upon the idea illustrated in Fig. 6 . In this system, a tris(bipyridyl) ruthenium complex is chosen as the pho tocharge generator and introduced into the backbone. The conjugated polymer backbone is chosen to play a dual role as the transporting channel for the charge carriers and as the macroligand to chelate with the transition metal complex. Upon excitation in the region of the MLCT transition of the Ru complex, elec trons are injected into the polymer backbone (equivalent to n-doping of PPV), transported away through either intrachain migration or interchain hopping, and eventually trapped by the trapping centers.
