ABSTRACT

I. INTRODUCTION The major use of nitrogen derivatives in laundry is as fabric softeners, where quaternary ammonium salts are used (see Chapter 9). However, ethoxylated amines, various types of amides, amphoterics/betaines, amine oxides, and other analogs are quite useful in the laundry detergent area [1-3], which is one focus of this chapter. Other key topics are detergency relating to cleaning of various hard surfaces, carpets, and hair.
