ABSTRACT

Different kinds of chemicals have been used to distinguish plants infected by viruses and phytoplasmas. Lindner (1961) has reviewed the various chemical tests that have been used for the diagnosis of virus infection in plants. These tests depend on the reaction between the chemicals used for detection and the compounds present in infected plants, which results in the development of a recognizable color either in the extracts or in tissues. These tests can be grouped according to the nature of the compounds involved.
