Exposure Assessment

Exposure assessluent is tlle process of nleasuring or estimating the intensity, frequency, and duration of human or animal exposure to an agent currently present in tlle environment or of estimating hypothetical exposures that might arise from tlle release of new chemicals into the environment. In its most complete form, an exposure assessluent should describe the magnitude, duration, schedule, and route of exposure, size, nature, and classes of the human, animal, aquatic, or wildlife populations exposed, and the uncertainties in all estimates. The exposure assessnlent can often be used to identify feasible prospective control options and to predict the effects of available treatment technologies for controlling or liIniting exposure 1.
