ABSTRACT

This paper describes two full-scale fire-resistance tests on 150 mm wide x 420 mm deep glulam timber beams 4100 mm long. The tests are carried out in accordance with Australian standard AS 1530.4-1990 which reflects in essence international standard ISO 8334. The effects of loading, timber density and local variation in a full-scale laminar construction. The paper also assesses the extent of critical softening beyond the depth of charring and the factors of safety built into the design recommendations of Australian standard AS 1720.4<r).
