INTRODUCTION

Definition o f Genotype-Environment Interaction

For several complex phenotypic traits, such as yield, genotypes may be judged as unstable in multi-environment trials, as they show varia tion in performance in different environments. These variations are partly due to environmental main effects (combinations of site, year and treatment) when the mean yield of all genotypes varies among environ ments, and also partly from genotype X environment interactions (GEI), when the differences between genotypes are inconsistent across envi ronments.
