ABSTRACT

It is one thing to have a perspective within a scientific discipline as a set of laws, rules and facts, and it is another one to apply this knowledge to problems one is confronted with in one’s reality. But even this will produce limited effects only. One of the central concerns for such a ‘practical’ science in the abovementioned Brantonian sense, thus, must be the dissemination of its knowledge and ‘rules’ to those who are directly concerned with or responsible for the solution of the problems that ergonomists care for, man and his work. Therefore, it is only a logical consequence to broaden the scope and field of application of ergonomics in order to enhance the benefits of applying ergonomic knowledge.
