ABSTRACT

Over the years a considerable body of research has been devoted to developing the Human Computer Interface (HCI) of microcomputer and workstation software (e.g. Baecker and Buxton, 1987; Bodker, 1990; Ellis et al., 1993; Ellis, 1993; Patton, 1993; Shneiderman, 1993; Davies and Medyckyj-Scott, 1994). The most notable developments have been the Apple Macintosh and subsequently the MS-Windows interface, NT Windows, and OpenWindows, the most recent newcomer being Microsoft’s Windows95 launched in August 1995.
