ABSTRACT

In this chapter we return to the Build function of a product company. From a SQ point of view, the main concern is that the product as built performs as defined by Product Planning and as designed by Engineering. This may be done by monitoring either the product or process or both. The use of acoustical measurements for QA purposes was discussed in the last chapter, but most of the time a vibration test is likely to be preferred. After a general discussion of diagnostics and decision levels, two examples of the use of vibration are given.
